98 POINTS INTERNATIONAL WINE REPORT: “The 2016 Del Dotto ‘The Beast’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a barrel selection that sources from a host of great vineyards in four different Napa Valley AVAs. Inky and dark in the glass, followed by gorgoeus aromatics, currently displaying a remarkable level of complexity with crème de cassis, mocha, Turkish coffee, Asian spices, anise and a touch of toasty oak all soaring from the glass. The weight and mouthfeel to this wine is simply stunning with crème de cassis, mocha, anise, black tea, leather and black cherry cordial flavors all building on the palate. This displays a head-turning combination of concentration and depth with layer upon layer of ripe dark fruits which cascades on to the long finish makes it nearly impossible to resist right now. Intense and lively in its youth, and also looks as if it will have an extremely long life in the cellar.”

The 2016 Beast is an absolute gem and will easily stack up to the multiple previously rated 100 point wines from this amazing production. At first glance, The Beast is supremely opaque in color and shines in the glass. The nose is bountiful, exuding beautiful aromatics of black currants, boysenberry pie, graphite, cinnamon bark, shaved baking chocolate and a hint of dark roast espresso. The palate is even more exciting and harmoniously balanced. The flavors are explosive with layers of black raspberry, blueberry puree’, chocolate mocha, fresh cedar with a butterscotch finish. This legendary wine showcases an incredibly rich and rounded mouthfeel with perfectly integrated tannin’s and a velvet finish. Enjoy now for the next 15-20 years!

The silky, rich fruit flavors of St. Helena from our St. Helena Mountain and Vineyard 887 vineyards with the dusty full bodied Rutherford Estate and the elegant chocolaty characteristics from Prichard Hill, the dark fruit characters of ripe black plum, fresh currant and cassis berries from Oakville capped off with the structured, terroir drive, massive mountain fruit, classic of Howell Mountain. This is truly creating a “Beast” of a Cabernet.
